What Will 2019 Be All About?

The second half of 2018 has given us some fairly good insight into what the direction of 2019 will be like. Change in every lifestyle aspect, including fashion among other things in store, but let’s not reveal too much before we’ve even started. Yes, there will be a great deal of change, for the better of course. It was high, time to be honest, as for a moment there, everything seemed gloomy. Now, we have plenty of new and amazing lifestyle trends to look forward to, so let’s discover what they are and then what – adopt them naturally and make them an integral part of our lives.

In with the old

The rise of vintage and secondhand clothing has been in the works for quite some time now, and we couldn’t be happier about it. First of all, vintage clothes and accessories allow us to own something unique, something that no one else owns, and for the millennial generation, this is extremely important as they greatly value authenticity and a unique sense of style. However, we do have to give some credit to current trends for the return of vintage fashion. After all, a great deal of new collections have been inspired by the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. Of course, for the sake of authenticity, it’s always better to have the ‘real deal’ rather than the new rendition of the old.

An ethical lifestyle, as a whole, including the fashion aspect, will definitely be taking center stage in 2019. All the advocacy regarding environmental preservation, stopping animal cruelty in both fashion and beauty industry, strides that have been taken to minimize our carbon footprint – these are all the things that will be under an even bigger spotlight in the year to come. There will be more recycling, higher emphasis on the importance of clothes not ending in already overflowing landfills, purchasing of locally sourced and organic produce, and generally a healthier and more conscientious lifestyle will come to the fore.  When it comes to fashion, high quality pre-loved garments will be all the rage, firstly for the reason stated above, and secondly, because it’s always better to make good use of a quality garment that someone loved, cherished and treated greatly than to go buy another heavily processed fast-fashion garment that has no staying power, both figuratively and literally. All the chemicals essentially ruin clothes after a couple of washes, and trends are fleeting, which will make this garment disposable in no time anyway. Therefore, be smart, and jump on the pre-loved fashion bandwagon.

Mindfulness and informal education

2018 has already been marked by the pursuit of mental and physical health, better dietary and general lifestyle habits, focus on kindness, finding time for yourself and your family, as well as on overall improvement, whether through formal or informal education. This trend seems to have no intention of dying out, but will rather get only stronger in the following year, especially in some Asian countries and the USA, more specifically in New York City and Hong Kong. Aside from our own education and the pursuit of empowerment and betterment, great emphasis will be placed on children’s formal but more importantly informal education.  The parents in these big cities are committed to finding the best playgroup in Hong Kong, New York and every other major city. Not only do these practices allow for the children to learn and develop better social skills, but they also give the parents a little free time to focus on their own improvement, wellness and additional education as well.

Enrichment of the soul

It’s a well-known fact that travel enriches the soul. Getting in touch with different languages and different cultures simply make us better and emotionally wealthier people. Now, as alluring and as luxurious tropical destinations are, it doesn’t come as a surprise that some other surprising destinations are getting more attention. Namely, in this pursuit of a healthier, more mindful, less stressful lifestyle, people are increasingly turning to such spiritual and spiritual-physical practices as yoga and meditation. Hence, in order to get some true peace of mind and learn from the best, they visit some of the finest yoga and meditation retreats across the world. We have a sneaking suspicion that this trend is only gaining momentum, and that it will figuratively explode in the following year.

You are what you eat

Ever since superfoods have been discovered to us by nutritionists, the craze has become unstoppable, and that is a wonderful thing. It is high time we leave bad dietary habits behind, and focus on yet another aspect of our wellbeing – our physical health. This aspect of health is highly dependent on proper nutrition, and now there are even different categories of superfoods – superfoods for glowing skin, superfoods for a stronger immune system, and even those for weight loss. We see people making smoothies, playing in the kitchen, carrying pre-cooked healthy meals and taking them to work. This is one of the trends that is at its very beginning, and just like meditation and yoga, it only stands to gain momentum as time passes.

Needless to say, 2019 will hopefully be a conscientious and productive year, one during which the focus will return on true values such as the preservation of the planet, acquisition of new skills, kindness, and green and mindful living. If the forecast is true, and we certainly hope it is, we’re looking at one amazing year.
