Statement red wrap-over a-line skirt with a feature 'martini label' design. Wrapover cotton skirt with wide swing style hem and tie fastening. This garment was made with cotton fabric produced by the Martini company in the 1950s and 60s. There is an almost exact version of this skirt displayed in the Fashion and Textile museum in Bermondsey, and was part of their 'POP' exhibition which explored the interplay between pop art and fashion. The skirt in the exhibiton is dated 1956 and this piece will be from around the same era. It's an example of how advertising mingled with wearable items in its earliest form. The skirt is a wraparound style which is very flattering for all shapes, and is quite adjustable.
